Laptop .V.S. Desktop
« on: February 26, 2013, 03:56:19 am »
So I have found a cheap(ish) iMac 17inch late 2007 for $300NZD. It seems to be a good deal (second hand) but I already have a laptop and I'm not sure if I would use both... Pros and cons for laptops and desktops? (Also I do travel around every now and again so my laptop is handy)

P.s. my laptop battery is FUCKED and only has like 10-30 mins with full charge, so it needs to be plugged in most of the time.

Thx guys,

well i never really owned a desktop myself. only had lappy's i still have a lappy.

so it all goes to how u want to use it. easyt take arround with u. or upgrade when new games comes out etc.

as desktop u can open up and change parts ur self. on a lappy u cant really do alot but update the drivers from web

i think that if ill buy a new comp i probs buy a desktop. cuz its easier to take out a few parts and replace with something beter.

then the answer would be what u prefere to use ur self :P atm i prefer a lappy

Well if you do a lot of moving around while you play, get a laptop. If you don't, get a desktop. They are cheaper and better

Unless you do a lot of traveling, I suggest going with the desktop computer.  I've had experience with both but I prefer the desktop sooo much better.  If I wanted I can easily take the case off and upgrade the hardware.

On the other hand, I don't like apple computers at all.  I understand that it may be a good deal, but I say save your money and buy a gaming rig.  Apple computers aren't as easy to upgrade and well the OS (in my opinion) isn't ideal for gaming.

Since you're already used to having your computer plugged in all the time and stationary, I think you should go desktop. As David said, desktop are so much better. They absolutely monster any laptop-end of discussion. Maybe start out by building your own, at a lower (but still still relatively high when compared to laptops) quality. As you learn what sort of hardware you need, then buy what you want. But yes, desktop is the way to go.

Get a laptop for mobility, get a desktop for everything else. Simple :]

That's kinda what I was thinking... Laptop for takin on holiday or sum thing and desktop for my desk.
But then the problem is that if I want to transfure  some of my stuff (games, softwares, files ect) but my laptop is windows7 and the mac would be on the snow lion OS thing (or wat ever it's called) and some stuff I may have to redownload? But I don't wanna do that coz of my limited data use :/

You can still transfer files between Mac/Windows. Programs/games are the only things that you shouldn't bother to transfer.

Build your own desktop. It's a much better choice.
