Anyone here know how to code?
« on: July 04, 2014, 06:50:30 pm »
Basically I really want to learn to code but I want to know the most efficient way to do it.

Based on most research I've done I've decided to start with Java then go to C, C++, C#, JavaScript, and Objective C. (Hopefully I can learn all this within a few years)
But I found this guy named thenewboston on youtube and want to learn from him, but a lot of people have said he doesn't teach it properly..

Any advice on how I should go about learning?

Once you learn a higher-level language (like Java), using PHP, C#, Python and others will come very easily. All of the functions are the same - it's just that different languages have different methods of doing things. I took a Java class at school. I really enjoyed the projects. They were very guided, but you learn a lot when you research about how to do different things that you're unfamiliar with. I have a ton of projects that I have saved somewhere - you might enjoy starting with the beginner projects and having me check your code to give you tips.

If I wanted to have a job that requires java, do I need to be 100% fluent or does everyone still need to look things up? I found a cool course to take online and ill do what u guys recommended once I finished it

The more you know, the better, but even professionals have to look things up online every once in a while.

About a week or two ago I found a nice C++ tutorial on the Code::Blocks website. I'm still grasping a few concept that I'm unfamiliar with, since I'm mostly used to high-level languages with built-in libraries and features. In college I will be doing a lot of work with MATLAB along with more Java and C++ so it wouldn't hurt to gain some more experience on my own time.
